Working Genius

What is Working Genius?

The Working Genius model, created by Patrick Lencioni, is a productivity and team framework that identifies six key types of ‘genius’ individuals bring to work: Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement and Tenacity. Each person has two natural areas of genius where they thrive, two areas of competency where they can function but don’t excel, and two areas of frustration that drain their energy. By understanding these strengths and weaknesses, individuals and teams can improve collaboration, efficiency and job satisfaction.

This model helps organization maximize productivity by ensuring that tasks align with the right people’s strengths. It is particularly useful for leadership, hiring and project management, as it clarifies why certain individuals struggle in specific roles while others excel. By leveraging the Working Genius model, teams can minimize burnout, reduce conflict and create a more fulfilling and effective work environment.
